Biochar Maule

Project Introduction: Biochar Maule
This is the latest project I'm currently working on with a Chilean startup based in the Maule region. The company is focused on producing high-quality, small-batch biochar from local agricultural waste, contributing to soil regeneration and carbon capture through low-tech, nature-based solutions.
My role involves leading the branding and marketing strategy from the ground up. This is an ongoing project, and I will be continuously adding new material as it evolves.
The scope of the work is divided into several key phases:
- Branding
Development of the brand identity, including logo design, visual direction, color palette, typography, tone of voice, and brand narrative. - Marketing Foundations (in progress)
This phase includes:- Website design and development (structure, wireframes, content)
- Establishing social media presence with branded templates
- A 3-month content calendar to support organic growth and engagement
- Content Marketing (upcoming)
Creation of long-form and educational content such as blog posts, guides, how-to articles, and insights, designed to position the brand as a trusted voice in regenerative agriculture, biochar and carbon removal. - Sales Enablement (upcoming)
Development of key marketing and communication assets to support the sales process, including:- Product one-pagers and pitch decks
- Slide templates
- Introductory materials for partners and distributors
- FAQ and technical sheets to help explain biochar’s value to different stakeholders
This is a project that brings together my passion for sustainability, visual storytelling, and strategic communication, and I look forward to sharing more as it grows.
Brand Strategy
Logo
The logo is built around a bold, minimalist mark that fuses the shape of a leaf with the letter "M", representing both nature and the Maule region.
I chose a geometric, symmetrical form to convey stability, growth, and balance, while the clean, sharp edges add a sense of modernity and purpose. The negative space creates a dynamic "Y" shape, suggesting branches, roots, or pathways, subtle references to the cycles of regeneration and transformation central to biochar.
Natural yet bold. Grounded, but looking forward.
This logo is designed to be versatile and scalable, working across digital and physical formats, from packaging to social media.

Color Palette
I chose this palette to reflect the essence of a brand that is rooted in nature, driven by impact, and visually honest.
- Moss Green
This deep, earthy green anchors the brand in nature. It conveys stability, regeneration, and a strong connection to the soil, a perfect match for a product born from the land, like biochar. - Vibrant Electric Green
I introduced this bold, high-energy green to inject movement and urgency into the visual identity. It signals innovation, climate action, and the powerful transformation happening beneath the surface. - Sand
This neutral, warm tone balances the palette. It brings a natural, rustic texture that keeps the brand grounded and authentic, aligning with the unpolished, raw aesthetic I wanted to achieve.
This palette supports a visual direction that feels raw but intentional, minimal but emotional, reinforcing the brand.

Typograpy
For this project, I chose a typographic pairing that balances clarity with character — reflecting the brand’s grounded yet impactful voice.
- Merriweather (Serif)
I use Merriweather for headings to bring weight, warmth, and a sense of integrity to the message. Its slightly condensed, classic serif style adds a subtle rustic feel that aligns with the natural and unpolished aesthetic of the brand. It commands attention without shouting, perfect for a product rooted in the earth. - Inter (Sans Serif)
For body text and supporting content, I selected Inter, a clean, highly legible sans serif that adds modernity and lightness to the layout. It ensures the design remains accessible and professional, especially in digital formats, while complementing the texture of Merriweather.

Image Direction (Raw with real impact)
I use a cold filter and grainy textures to convey a sense of rawness and realism, staying true to the nature of the product and the land it comes from. The unpolished look mirrors process: low-tech, local, and deeply connected to the soil. It's not about perfection, it’s about real impact. The visuals are meant to feel honest, grounded, and minimal, just like the biochar.

Tone of Voice
Our tone is raw, grounded, and intentional, just like our product. We speak with clarity and purpose, avoiding greenwashing or technical jargon. Instead, we use honest, direct language that reflects who we are: a small, rooted team making a real impact.
It’s warm, not polished; assertive, not aggressive. We let the land and the science speak, and we amplify that truth with respect and humility.
Keywords: Honest, grounded, minimal, purposeful, regenerative.
Defining the Brand’s Purpose
As part of the brand development process, I worked closely with the founder to define the core strategic foundations of the company, starting with its vision, mission, and core values. This early stage was essential to ensure that every visual and verbal expression of the brand would be aligned with its deeper purpose: restoring soils, capturing carbon, and supporting climate action through local, nature-based solutions. These statements now guide not only the communication strategy, but also product development, partnerships, and long-term brand positioning.
Vision
To regenerate soils and ecosystems by turning waste into a lasting climate solution, one small batch of biochar at a time.
Mission
We create high-quality, small-scale biochar using local organic waste in Maule, Chile.
Our mission is to store carbon in the soil, restore land fertility, and support climate action rooted in nature.
We believe in a future where circular, low-tech solutions drive real environmental change, starting from the ground up.
Core Values
- Honesty
We communicate with transparency — in our product, process, and impact. - Regeneration
We believe in giving back to the land more than we take — restoring soil, capturing carbon, and supporting long-term resilience. - Simplicity
We don’t overcomplicate things. Nature shows us the way — we follow with intention and humility. - Local Impact
We source locally, produce responsibly, and collaborate with our community. - Responsibility
Every decision we make considers the health of the planet — and the generations to come.
Brand Application
To ensure the brand feels cohesive and intentional across all touchpoints, I developed a set of brand applications that demonstrate how the identity comes to life in real-world contexts, from everyday materials to client-facing assets.
The goal was to create a system that feels raw yet professional, natural yet designed, always aligned with the values of simplicity, regeneration, and impact.
Applications include:
- Stationery:
Business cards, letterhead, invoices, and email signatures - Merchandise:
Branded t-shirts, tote bags, caps
